Corrections policy
We work to get every detail right, and we correct mistakes openly. If you find an error on Ghost Town Directory, we want to hear about it.
How to report an error
Email hello [at] ghosttowndirectory [dot] com. It helps to include:
- the page, or the town and state,
- what is wrong, and what you believe is right,
- a source, such as a record, a published history or a document, if you have one.
Descendants, local historians and people who know these places firsthand are often our best sources.
What happens next
An editor reads every report and checks it against the page's sources and any new evidence. If the page is wrong, we correct it. If the evidence is mixed, we may note the disagreement in the page's sources rather than change the story.
How corrections are shown
When we correct a fact, such as a date, a name, a place or an event, we add a note to the page saying what changed and when. Small fixes like typos, broken links and formatting are made without a note.
Photographs
If a photo is miscredited, misidentified, or you hold the rights and want it removed, email hello [at] ghosttowndirectory [dot] com and we will correct the credit or take the image down.
